Our concerns are as follows;
• Safety of community residents including children. Currently our children enjoy playing throughout the neighborhood and along the major neighborhood roadways. With the connecting our neighborhood roads with major four lane thoroughfares, the additional thru traffic will increase, bringing in people that do not live in our communities and greatly add to the current problems with speeding and new outside traffic.
• Increase in Traffic. With the extension of the University Boulevard into our communities come additional access and the addition of thru traffic. When there are events held at the Jiffy Lube Live amphitheater, traffic is very heavy on Wellington Road. We are concerned that our communities will use as shortcuts and overflow during these events.
• Outside crime. Currently our communities enjoy little crime. We can attribute this to the restricted access to our communities. However, with the addition of a major four lane divided highway with multiple entry point, we will see crime rates within our communities increase as access opens to non-residents.
We the undersigned citizens of the Brentsville Districts respectfully request that this honorable body of elected County Supervisors intervene on our behalf and halt any planned extension of the University Boulevard project which would build a four lane thoroughfare (divided highway) through the quiet and peaceful communities of Independence, Victory Lakes, and Sheffield Manor.
We further request that the Prince William County Planning Commission and Board of County Supervisors remove the planned extension of University Boulevard between Sudley Manor Drive and Devlin Road from the County's Comprehensive Plan and return the land to the Independence and Sheffield Manor HOAs respectively.
