Wollongong City Council propose to charge Fitness Group Businesses up to $5000 per year to train in local parks. This was stated in an article in the Illawarra Mercury on Saturday 13/4/13 and the proposal is available for comment a Wollongong City Council.
Many of the people training at these parks live in Wollongong and already pay rates which cover the upkeep of these parks, therefore charging these businesses fees to use these parks will mean an increase in fees to the consumer/residents of Wollongong to train at the parks which they have already paid for in their yearly rates.
We the undersigned call on Wollongong City Council to cease charging local health and fitness business for using the local parks of Wollongong to train and promote a healthy lifestyle to its residents.
We believe Wollongong City Council should be promoting our City as a City that supports an active and healthy lifestyle not a City that profits from it.
