Since 1997 Yorkshire Water has been discharging effluent waste into Cornelian Bay (Scarborough) under an agreement with McCains Foods GB.
Yorkshire Water state in their EIA that they will discharge at a rate of 44 litres per second. This equates to over 3000 tonnes per day. YW also state in their report that the existing pipeline is being replaced due to excessive corrosion of the pipeline. What is the corrosive nature of the discharge doing to our coastline and to the marine life on the Yorkshire coast ?
The discharge contains ammonia and other pollutants harmful to marine life and has damaged the marine life both at the nearshore and in the bay itself.
If you want to stop this by making your views known to the UK Environment Agency then vote STOP.
We the undersigned ask that the following agencies/authorities: UK Environment Agency, Marine Management Agency, North East Inshore Fisheries Conservation Authority, Scarborough Borough Council and North Yorkshire County Council act by taking steps to end the discharge of effluent waste by Yorkshire Water PLC into the sea at Wheatcroft (Cornelian Bay, Scarborough)
