Students against Columbia College Chicago's decision to eliminate PRM (Producing Recorded Music) classes from curriculum
- Target:
- Columbia College Chicago
- Region:
- United States of America
Starting Summer Semester 2010, Columbia College Chicago will no longer provide PRM (Producing Recorded Music) classes for the music production department. These are hands-on classes where the students actually get to experience and learn real-life situations and techniques in the studio environment.
These classes have been eliminated from the music business curriculum, with no substantial explanation or consideration for the students there in. Students in this major have expressed the need for these classes, describing them to be the most important component of the music production program.
We, the undersigned, disagree with Columbia College’s decision to eliminate PRM (Producing Recorded Music) classes from the music business curriculum.
These classes are the foundation of the music production program and by removing them; this institution would be doing a huge disservice to the students of Columbia College, specifically in the music business/music production department.
