Newmarket is currently not well served by foodstores and would benefit from a wider choice.
We believe the old gasworks site at Exning Road site is the best available foodstore site in Newmarket as it is brownfield and on the edge of the town centre.
Morrisons has received an overwhelmingly positive response from the public. The majority - 90% of respondents - said they supported the proposals and were happy to see the site redeveloped by Morrisons.
A planning application has been submitted to Forest Heath District Council, who will shortly decide whether to give the go ahead.

We the undersigned support the planning application for a new Morrisons at Exning Road, Newmarket.
We believe the new foodstore will be good for Newmarket because it will:
- Create 250 to 300 new full and part-time jobs for the local community;
- Regenerate a disused site on the edge of Newmarket town centre;
- Improve choice and competition in food shopping in Newmarket;
- Make Exning Road easier to cross with a new roundabout and pedestrian crossing.
