Support the construction of the FishHawk All Wheel Terrain Park

As of the writing of this petition, December 2nd 2016, Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation Department has approved funding to rebuild/refurbish the currently decommissioned FishHawk skate park, located next to Bevis Elementary School on Osprey Ridge Drive.

The current plan calls for the building of a traditional concrete skate park. The present design and intended use case is restrictive and limits use to skateboarders which represent a small minority of residents. The broader majority of “All Wheel” enthusiasts such as cyclists, in-line skaters, and scooter riders will be excluded from using the currently proposed park.

Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation Department is basing their current design on survey results from a series of public Town Halls held over this past summer. The survey did not include any options other than "skate park" in the Action Sports category. Therefore, the results are biased towards skateboards and needlessly satisfy only a small fraction of the potential user community.

User safety has been cited as the primary motivation for restricting other types of users in traditional skate parks. There is a perception of increased collisions or user conflict arising as traffic flow is non-directional. This perception is outdated as modern, progressive “All Wheel” Pumptrack design has been proven to provide a safe, fun, and all-inclusive environment. (see link below) Today skateboarders, cyclists, in-line skaters, scooter riders of all ages and abilities can safely enjoy the same park maximizing our dollar investment without incremental cost.
