Te Whare Koha Development Project: Support a new resource centre in Highbury
- Target:
- Palmerston North City Council
- Region:
- New Zealand
The Highbury community is located in a suburb of Palmerston North with a resident population of 3,240. The 2013 Deprivation ratings shows Highbury sits alongside other communities n New Zealand with the highest deprivation rating of 10.
Highbury is surrounded by other suburbs with deprivation ratings ranging from 7 to 9. In addition to deprivation ratings, decile rating for schools attended by ratings are: Takaro school (1), Awapuni primary School (2), Sommerset Cresent School (1), Central Normal school (4), Monrad Intermediate school (3), Awatapu College (5), Queen Elizabeth College (3). 1 Being the most deprived.
Residents in Highbury and surrounding areas continue to experience isolation from services and ongoing access issues. The Highbury side of the city lacks the infrastructure to develop and deliver essential services and most services are only available on the other side of the city.
-I Support Te Roopu Oranga O Highbury Trust to build a resource centre in Highbury to develop a social enterprise project that offers initiatives to enble our community to reach its potential.
-The project will provide our community with a chance to be a part of the solution, to work together, grow and participate in work experience, training, and employment initiatives.
-I support the continuation of the charitable work undertaken by Te Whare Koha to address the impacts of poverty and disadvantage experienced in our community.
We seek support from the Palmerston North City Council, MP's, Government Departments, Funders and interested members in the community for this project.
