Aberdeen University has never had a decent union bar, off or on campus, and the one we did have closed recently. Students have always wanted a union on campus, but never gotten one.
Currently, the University's Estates Department is planning to demolish the old Queen Mother Library and build a new one a couple of meters from the old site. In fact, the work has already begun.
It has never occurred to the people behind this scheme that the QML could be kept, renovated, and turned into an on-campus union capable of housing our Students Association, a fully functioning bar/nightclub, study areas, etc.
We, the undersigned, call on the Aberdeen University Students Association and the Aberdeen University Estates Department to keep the old Queen Mother Library and have it converted into a fully functioning union that we can guarantee will be used by university students.
