Together for Karachi is a unified, Karachi-wide action plan to demand accountability for Karachi’s failing infrastructure that has overwhelmed the 22 million people who live in this city, particularly after the devastating urban flooding that took place in August 2020.
Our platform tracks the delivery of the Karachi Transformation Plan. By monitoring the spending of the Rs. 1.1 trillion committed by the Federal and Provincial Governments, we ensure transparency and accountability of this plan under the watchful eye of Karachi’s public.
WHO WE ARE
We are the hardworking, tax-paying, responsible and exasperated citizens of Karachi, unanimously demanding and taking action for a better future for our city.
Together For Karachi is an apolitical, citizen-led initiative which includes philanthropists, activists, academics, artists and individuals from the private sector.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER WE GET ENOUGH SIGNATURES?
We want to use this petition to negotiate with the current Federal and Provincial governments, a public accountability system on the website www.togetherforkarachi.com, which will have real-time updates of the “Karachi Transformation Plan” that is currently being rolled out under the newly appointed Karachi Administrator.
Availability of this information on a public website will ensure strict monitoring and high accountability which remains unprecedented as far as Karachi projects are concerned. The website will:
1. Track and monitor a timeline of deliverables which the government has promised, under a collaborative agreement between the Federal and Provincial Governments, the Chief of Army Staff and the National Disaster Management Authority.
2. Make public the names of the people who are responsible for ensuring that the Karachi Transformation Plan is delivered.
3. Include regular town-halls to communicate progress with the citizens of Karachi so that the solutions to their problems are tracked, understood and accessible.

We, the citizens of Karachi, are demanding the transparent and timely delivery of the Karachi Transformation Project. By monitoring the spending of the Rs. 1.1 trillion committed by the Federal and Provincial Governments, we want to ensure transparency and accountability of this plan under the watchful eye of Karachi’s public, while ensuring that the following services are delivered:
1. Dedicated funds committed to rebuilding the city’s infrastructure.
2. Safe and environmentally sustainable infrastructure which includes city-wide drainage and sewerage networks, improved roads and bridges, increasing the capacity of Karachi’s water supply system and delivering high-quality public transport facilities.
3. Unprecedented measures to manage solid waste production especially reducing the production of waste, improving recycling and waste disposal practices.
4. Accountability of the spend of public funds through an independent citizen-led committee.
5. Oversight by an urban planning committee. A voluntary committee of 10-15 qualified engineers, urban planners, architects, environmental specialists, land surveyors, feasibility and financial experts and legal advisors to be constituted to conduct an overarching mapping of the city of Karachi, its infrastructure challenges and growing demands.
6. An adequate disaster-response mechanism to be established within the city of Karachi by increasing the capacity of government hospitals and first-responders.
