If you believe that the Longboat Key Commission has hastily drafted a "neighborhood" special assessment taxing proposal, that is unfairly structured for many property owners, then please help us persuade the commission to rethink their assessment methodology, by signing this petition.
The second referendum will be voted upon equally by all island voters. Two thirds of the voters will be assessed $500, while one third of the voters will be assessed up to $10,500. Many neighborhood property owners believe the structure of the vote is grossly imbalanced and unfair - tyranny by the majority.
Many believe that the commission is intentionally structuring the referendum vote to assure its passage by offering two thirds of the voters a very small $500 assessment to be paid out over thirty years.
We the undersigned ask the Longboat Key Commission to reconsider its entire power line underground special assessment taxing methodology, and to create a more fair and equitable approach to place before the community voters in the form of a second referendum.
