Gun violence in the United States is an epidemic. Nearly one hundred people are killed every day by guns, and scores more are injured and sentenced to a life of rehabilitation, pain, and trauma. For 25 years the United States has had a national background check system. Over time, loopholes in the law have developed allowing criminals and domestic abusers access to guns at gun shows and over the internet. Updating the law to require universal background checks for every gun purchase will prevent countless deaths and injuries. Gun violence is preventable, and it is our duty as citizens to act.
We, the undersigned, call on the President to sign into law the bill requiring universal background checks on all gun sales.
