Win-Win for Chagrin Schools

We urge the Chagrin Falls Board of Education to develop and implement a new facility plan that is affordable; provides for critically needed facility updates and renovations in all school buildings; and includes retaining and rehabilitating the Intermediate School on Philomethian Street.

We believe:
• Many of our buildings, including both Gurney and the historic Philomethian School, are in need of immediate attention.
• The District can no longer defer maintenance when there is a potential negative impact on student safety and learning.
• The District needs to present a plan that will win the support of the majority of voters in order to pay for facility updates.
• The current plan for a consolidated new school is too big, too costly and too slow to remedy urgent safety issues.

We ask for a new plan that:
• Prioritizes immediate repairs in all buildings.
• Retains and rehabilitates both the Gurney Elementary and Intermediate School buildings.
• Includes a long-term affordable plan for facility maintenance and operating expenses.

A fiscally responsible plan that includes the retention, renovation and proactive maintenance of all our buildings will benefit not only the children of our district but the strength and well-being of our school community.
