11 year old Rimsha, a Christian living in Mehrebed, was arrested on August 16 with claims against her by a local iman of blasphemy, including that she conspired against Islam by burning pages from a children's religious book inscribed with verses from the Quran. We demand her release and her protection as well as that of her family.
Pakistan’s draconian blasphemy law has been used, time and again, to settle personal scores, and it has provided impetus to religious intolerance and sectarian violence.
Making innocent children targets of such sectarian hatred is extremely immoral and deserves global condemnation.
Ms. Ambassador,
We, the undersigned, demand that the government of Pakistan safeguard the innocence, freedom and the well being of Rimsha Masih and her family.
We further demand that the government of Pakistan introduce laws to ensure equal democratic rights to all the Pakistani citizens irrespective of religion, caste or creed.
