We, the people living with HIV& AIDS, our families and friends and the civil society actively involved with the treatment, care & support of the hapless socially marginalized community in Pakistan, strongly criticize the indifferent attitude of international donors including World Bank, DFID, USAID as well as the government of Pakistan towards the pathetic condition of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Pakistan who have been denied their right of treatment, care & support.
Dear Everybody,
According to the latest estimates, as many as 97400 people in Pakistan live with HIV & AIDS out of which about 50% live in the province of Sindh while 80% of them are resident of the provincial capital Karachi.
It is extremely shocking that in such an alarming HIV situation, unfortunately all the HIV and AIDS prevention projects efficiently and effectively implemented by NGOs till 30th June, 2010 have suddenly been abandoned by the government, UN System and international donors especially when Pakistan has already failed to achieve WHO Universal Access 2006-2010 and HIV related MDG 2001-2010.
If immediate steps are not taken to help the civil society continue their current project activities, the fruits of years of hard work by implementing NGOs will be washed out and the service delivery structures established by the collective efforts of numerous eminent NGOs over many long years destroyed within no time.
Now, finally when all our options have exhausted, we have decided to start LONG MARCH AGAINST AIDS ON 1st DECEMBER, 2010 – FROM KARACHI TO ISLAMABAD TO KNOCK AT THE DOORS OF THE CHIEF JUSTICE AND PRESIDENT/PRIME MINISTER OF PAKISTAN TO SEEK THEIR SUPPORT.
