Dear Honorable Secretary-General of the United Nations,

We, the signers of this letter, address Your Excellency, the highest officer of the United Nations, to explain the disregard of natural and human rights of Iranian political prisoners by the Islamic Republic government of Iran.
One of these prisoners is Kourosh Zaim, an author, researcher, political activist and a secular and high ranking member of the Iranian National Front , who was arrested on July 16, 2016 and imprisoned in Evin Prison. He received a four-year sentence a week later. It is apparently the outcome of a trial that Mr. Zaim’s lawyer was not aware of and considers legally invalid.
From the first days of the Islamic Republic, Mr. Zaim has been arrested, interrogated, and imprisoned just for his critical and humanitarian speeches and writings.
Kourosh Zaim has authored sixteen books, translated eleven books from English to Farsi, and has delivered several speeches in universities, as well as cultural and humanitarian centers.
Kourosh Zaim, 72, was born in the Iranian city of Kashan, studied structural engineering at the University of Illinois, and received his master's degree in management from the University of Chicago.
He has always been a critic of the Islamic Republic and has considered its constitution as a document against the principles of democracy. He believes that the structure and skeleton of the Islamic Republic is made of an interwoven network of corruption, propped up with lies and violence, that connects all institutions of the regime.
This researcher and author has also acted as a supporter of cultural heritage and the environment, criticizing the Islamic Republic’s inefficient policies, which have led to the destruction of both the environment and cultural heritage in Iran.
In fact, Kourosh Zaim has not done any activity against the national interests of Iranians people, interests that are based on peace and empathy for other nations of the world.
Considering your high international position and the history of your ongoing efforts to preserve human rights and dignity, we, the signers of this letter, who consider ourselves his friends and fans, address this campaign to you on the two-hundredth day of the imprisonment of Kourosh Zaim, and would like to please ask Your Excellency to kindly use all the venues at your disposal to free this brave prisoner of conscience.

ما، امضاکنندگان این نامه با توجه به مقام و جایگاه شما به عنوان عالی‌ترین مقام رسمی سازمان ملل متحد، جنابعالی را خطاب قرار می دهيم تا به نادیده گرفته شدن حقوق طبیعی و انسانی زندانیان سیاسی ایران در زیر سرکوب حکومت جمهوری اسلامی تاکید کنیم.
یکی از این زندانیان کوروش زعیم، نویسنده، پژوهشگر، فعال سیاسی و از اعضای سکولار و بلندپایه ی جبهه ی ملی ایران است که در تاریخ ۲۶ تیر ۱۳۹۵ (16 جولای 2016) بازداشت و به زندان اوین منتقل شد و، یک هفته
پس از آن، در دوم مردادماه حکم چهار سال زندان به او ابلاغ شد؛ حکمی که وکیل او از روند دادرسی و صدور آن بی اطلاع بوده و آن را فاقد اعتبار قانونی می‌داند.
این فعال سیاسی از ابتدای عمر جمهوری اسلامی بارها و تنها به دلیل نوشته ها و سخنرانی های انتقادی و انساندوستانه ی خود مورد احضار، بازجویی، بازداشت، در حبس های انفرادی و تعزیری قرار گرفته است.
کوروش زعیم تاکنون ۱۶ کتاب تألیف نموده، ۱۱ اثر را از زبان انگلیسی به زبان فارسی ترجمه کرده، و ده ها سخنرانی در مراکز دانشگاهی و فرهنگی و حقوق بشری داشته است.
کوروش زعیم متولد ۱۳۱۸ در شهر کاشان، دانش آموخته ی مهندسی سازه از دانشگاه ایلینویز امریکا، و کارشناسی ارشد مدیریت از دانشگاه شیکاگو امریکا است.
کوروش زعیم همواره منتقد حاکمیت جمهوری اسلامی بوده و قانون اساسی جمهوری اسلامی را مخالف با اصول دموکراسی ارزیابی کرده است. او معتقد است که ساختار و اسکلت وجودی جمهوری اسلامی از رشته‌های درهم تنیده ی فسادی ساخته ‌شده که نهادهای نظام را به هم ارتباط داده و با دروغ و خشونت بر پا نگه‌ داشته است.
این نویسنده و پژوهشگر، نه تنها در مقام یک فعال سیاسی، بلکه در مقام یک حامی میراث فرهنگی و محیط زیست، بارها در نوشته ها و گفته های خود نسبت به سیاست‌های ناکارآمد جمهوری اسلامی که منجر به نابودی میراث فرهنگی و محیط زیست ایران شده، انتقاد کرده است.
در مجموع، مهندس کوروش زعیم هیچ فعالیتی که خلاف مسیر سربلندی همه ی ایرانیان، بر پایه ی صلح و دوستی و همدلی با ملل دیگر دنیا، باشد انجام نداده است.
اکنون، همزمان با دویستمین روز زندانی بودن این فعال سیاسی و مدنی، و نيز همزمان با برگزاری کارزاری از سوی دوستداران و علاقمندان ایشان در شبکه های اجتماعی ایران، و همچنين به منظور اطلاع رسانی در مورد وضعیت ایشان، ما امضا کنندگان این نامه از جنابعالی خواهشمندیم که برای آزادی مهندس کوروش زعیم همه ی ابزارها را بکار گرفته و در اين راستا دستور اقدامات لازم را صادر کنید.
با احترام
